$95.00 – $375.00
Description
Two tone Ibo log drum played with either a plain straight wood stick or a rubber-tipped mallet. This type of drum is a traditional percussion instrument made and played in eastern part of Nigeria and Cameroon. Larger ekwes produce deep bass tones, the playing technique is fairly gentle, smaller sizes sharper pitched andmore spirited playing.
The ekwe is carved from padauk wood, a naturally reddish-orangish color wood, fading to rust brown as it ages. This wood has a quality to resist insect damage and is great musical instrument wood for mid-tone instruments.
