Description
This type of drum’s sound can go from a rumbling rhythm to a thunderous whirl wind. The larger size brekete will have more depth of sound. The medium tension goat skin heads with a string snare create a sizzling boom that make you want to move and groove. A traditional drum from Ghana, hand-carved from a single piece of wood from the tweneboa tree (cordia millenii), the shell thickness is thinner than most drums, this makes the drum lightweight and easy to hols and adds to its vibrational sound quality. Similar type drums are made and played in other cultures, the brekete also called gungon in Ghana, with it’s snare effect is unique to West Africa.
