Description

The kora is a harp-like West African instrument prevalent in several countries–Senegal, Guinea, and Ghana to name a few. It has 21 strings that are held in notches on a bridge called a bridge harp. The strings are tuned with four different heptatonic scales, giving the instrument plenty of dynamic range. Some come with a pickup installed to enable electronic amplification. Made from a gourd and covered with a skin, it is held by two handles and played by the thumb and index finger of each hand.
