The ahoko is a scraped musical instrument played in Baule or Central part of Ivory Coast. A hardwood stick is carved with ribbed notches and a seed pod (oncoba spinosa) slides up and down it’s length creating a scraping sound, this sound is amplified off and on with another seed pod (entada) held with the players other hand. The string attached to both ends of the stick serves only to keep the entada seed together with the other parts.
