Nigerian Shekere

Description

The Nigerian “shekere” is the mother of all shakers, or at least is has influenced the sound or the construction of many current percussion shakers, and the shaker feel of many music genres.  Motherland shekeres are made from carefully selected and prepared Nigerian grown gourds, then a net of beads are made to cover it. Selecting  the gourds takes some consideration for best sound and playability. Thin, strong and hard shelled gourds are the best, they are light weight to hold and play, and have a lively responsive sound. The shekere nets are strung with either a regular amount of beads or with extra ones. Smallest to xl-sizes are usually available but check stock quantities while ordering.
