Togo Seed

Description

The togo seed is from the entada plant which grows like a vine in tropical forests. The plant produces a long bean pod with a dozen large seeds inside, imagine a regular garden green bean supersized to about two feet long! The seeds are removed from the long pod, dried, washed, then cut leaving about 2/3 of the seed remaining. A whitish color flesh inside each seed is scooped out, one of the more difficult tasks of processing this seed. The hollowed out seeds have a deep and rich tonal quality which makes them special for percussion instrument use. We originally collected this seed from the country of Togo, hence the name given to it. Entada species are found in various parts of West Africa and Indonesia, perhaps in other tropical regions as well.

Motherland offers entada seed percussion made in several different configurations including;  hand held bunches, leg and waist belts. Larger seeds with only a small part cut off produce lower pitches, seeds that are cut in half are medium pitch, small cut offs have lighter sprinkling sound.

30″ long not including the tie ends and can be wrapped several times around the leg or once around an average size persons waist. Works well hanging from a percussion rack or held in both hands and manipulated to make the desired sound effect.

, it is designed for wearing around the ankle part of a persons leg. Works great for embellishing a dancers movements, its quality sound adds a special dimension to most music.

If you need plenty of volume this particular rattle will take care of serious business. It is approximately 30″ long not including the tie ends and can be wrapped several times around the leg or once around an average size persons waist. Works well hanging from a percussion rack or held in both hands and manipulated to make the desired sound effect.
