A kendang is a traditional double-headed drum used in the music of Indonesia, particularly in Javanese and Balinese gamelan ensembles. a The kendang is a solid wooden drum with two sizes of buffalo-hide drum heads. The heads are laced with Buffalo-hide cords and tightened with sliding rings.
The kendang is played with the hands and fingers and sticks. Musicians strike different parts of the drumheads and body to produce a range of tones, from deep bass sounds to sharp accents.
