Gourd Shaker with Plastic Beads
$20.00 – $48.00
Description
Shaker is made from a dried gourd that has naturally shaped handle and a bulbous end that allows for a beaded net to cover it. A small hole is cut in one end of the gourd and all fibrous material and seeds are removed and the inside scraped clean. The sound is lively and can vary slightly depending the actual thickness and hardness of the particular gourd used.
The plastic bead type shaker is popular for its loud timbre & colorful look. The sound is clear and adds a vibrant edge to the music. . Handcrafted in Ghana and Togo by expert craftspeople, each shaker is a small work of art. In Ewe part of Ghana the local name for this type of gourd shaker is “axatse” (pronounced ah-Haht-say)
The shakers are sized by measuring the widest diameter of the gourd that is covered with the net, not by measuring their length.
Several bead color combinations may be available, the images shown in this listing represent the type of gourd shakers you will receive but bead colors and their patterns may vary, however quality of sound and assembly are always guaranteed the same.
